Stardust Cellars
About Us
Stardust Cellars gained global recognition with the launch of Funky Ferments, a wild-fermented session mead brand that introduced a fresh, light, bubbly, and refreshing style of mead to the market. Designed to be enjoyed regularly, Funky Ferments offers a wild yeast funk reminiscent of craft beer but gluten-free, making it an ideal draft keg or canned option for on- and off-premise establishments. Our meads are crafted in open-top, egg-shaped fermenters, emphasizing tradition and terroir.
Located in the scenic mountains above North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Stardust Cellars is a distinctive biodynamic vineyard dedicated to innovation and environmental stewardship. Our meads undergo spontaneous fermentation with wild cultures from local raw honey and estate well water, capturing the unique essence of North Carolina’s landscape.
Our Practices
Wild Fermentation: Using spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts from local raw honey, each batch reflects the natural terroir and complexity of our region.
Biodynamic Vineyard: We practice biodynamic farming, including natural vineyard maintenance with Southdown Babydoll sheep for fertilization and grooming.
Bee & Environment Friendly: We avoid sprays to protect the bee population and support local ecosystems. Our honey is sourced exclusively from small, family-run apiaries in the community.
Award-Winning Quality: Stardust Cellars has earned accolades such as Gold at the international Mazer Cup for our “Sweet Caroline” mead and Best Mead Packaging in America (2024) for “Honey Buzzed.”
Diverse Offerings: In addition to our celebrated wild-fermented meads, we produce ciders and innovative non-alcoholic beverages like Lion’s Mane Mushroom Mead and Weed Mead to serve a broad and diverse customer base.
